Ethiris VMS 7.0 – A Completely New Level, Stronger Than Ever

Version 7.0 of Ethiris is loaded with useful new features that make both the operator´s and the system integrator´s work more efficient. How about a video export function that is 1 000 times faster than previous versions? Or our new plug-in concept for cameras that enables updating the camera support in Ethiris through Device Packs? You will get surprised when you read about all exciting news in Ethiris VMS 7.0.

Below you can read about all the news in Ethiris 7.0. You can also learn more about the functions by downloading the pdf Tips & Trix >>

Extremely Fast Export of Video

Export of video is an important feature in a VMS. Using our new export function in Ethiris not only saves valuable time but also provides better quality as the original video stream is kept in its original quality. Furthermore, the exported video is secured by digital signing. A completely new viewer for playback of exported video comes with the installation and can also be copied to the target directory upon exporting.

Plug-In Concept for Cameras Provides Enhanced Camera Support

A completely new concept for camera support in Ethiris has been developed, Ethiris Camera Plug-in. The concept gives huge advantages when we develop support for new camera brands and models. In the future, we will create camera device packs that can be installed without having to reinstall Ethiris itself. This means that the camera support in an existing system can be enhanced simply by adding or exchanging a plug-in dll.

Probe – Automatic Support for Cameras

We see big benefits with our new probe function in Ethiris VMS 7.0. The function is implemented for ONVIF and Axis cameras. Probing means that during runtime, Ethiris can query the cameras about their properties, and thus Ethiris automatically has support for ONVIF cameras and all Axis cameras having firmware 4.40 or later. Furthermore, Ethiris has support for Axis’ new technology, Zipstream.

Camera Groups for Structure and Simplification

A new possibility in Ethiris Admin is to group cameras in the server configuration. This provides several advantages, especially in a system with a large number of cameras. First of all, it increases the overview in Ethiris Admin. Secondly, it simplifies configuration when a whole group of cameras is to record video simultaneously. A number of variables are automatically created for each group. Thus you can start recording for the whole group at once using script or by connecting the variable to a button in Ethiris Client.

Cameras are added to/moved between groups using drag & drop. Thus it is very easy to manage which camera is in which group.

Enhanced Integration to Access Control Systems

More and more sites require integration between video surveillance systems and access control systems. For many years, users of Ethiris have been able to integrate Ethiris to various access control systems by using OPC. Now we have taken another step to simplify this type of integration and also to increase the functionality. We have created a completely new plug-in concept for access control systems in Ethiris.

Today, there is one plug-in which is based on ONVIF Profile C where for example Axis A1001 fits. Via a browse function, Ethiris finds available access controllers on the network and automatically reads current configuration from these. The user can easily associate one or several cameras to various events in the access control system for automatic recording, for example if someone opens a door without having authorized access.

In Ethiris Client there is a new door object that is connected to one of the available access controllers. The door object displays current status of the corresponding door but can also be used to for example manually unlock the door.

Simplified Handling of Distributed I/O

For distributed I/Os we have now created a brand new plug-in concept. In this first version of the concept, Axis P8221 is supported. Ethiris reads the current configuration of the device and automatically creates the correct number of inputs and outputs based on the configuration. The inputs and outputs are added as variables in Ethiris datastore. The variables can then be used in the whole Ethiris, just like any other variable in datastore. The system integrator can easily create the functionality the end-customer desires. For example, the variables are available in script and to the various interaction objects in Ethiris Client, such as buttons and LEDs. More brands of I/O will be added as plug-in modules in upcoming versions of Ethiris.

New Script Editor Increases Efficiency

Script is one of several powerful features that make Ethiris rise above the competition. The system integrator is given almost endless possibilities to customize the system and thus fulfill complex and high demands from the end-customers. In the new version we have introduced a number of improvements that decreases the burden of the system integrator. To begin with, the new script editor is essentially faster than the old one, which is beneficial when working with large scripts.

A very useful new feature is the introduction of row numbers that makes a huge difference when debugging. In combination with the relatively new debug window, possible script errors can be tracked down very quickly. Auto indentation and intellisense increase the speed of writing script and helps the user spell the available objects and properties correctly. Syntax highlighting and the possibility to collapse/expand method bodies provide better overview in large scripts.

Increased Authorization Provides Easier Management

The authorization system is an important part of a modern VMS. For several years you have been able to connect Ethiris authorization to Windows authorization system. New in version 7.0 of Ethiris is that you can use nested Windows user groups, i.e. groups contained in other groups. Furthermore you can now mix local groups and groups in AD (Active Directory).

Other News

As if all above is not enough, there are several other important new features in version 7.0 such as:

• Touch-friendly Ethiris Client for use with touch-screens. A perfect match with Kentima’s various Panel PCs. The function can also be used for enhancing the user experience when connecting Ethiris Client to UHD monitors.

• A new image object in Ethiris Client that can be used for displaying various static images in the client. The object can be connected to a variable for control of visibility, which means that you can position several images on top of each other and control which image to display at each time, as a kind of status indication.

• Automatic recording of cameras associated with events and alarms for not having to write script to start recording on the cameras.
