Ethiris NVR-N Rack Solutions ̶ efficient technology increasing safety

For Borås Arena, home arena of the fotball team IF Elfsborg (a top team in the highest division in Sweden), Direct Larm Borås AB has selected Ethiris NVR-N Rack Solutions to meet the requirement of a complete video surveillance solution. With redundancy for both servers and video storage, the camera surveillance is executed with the highest possible reliability.

Direct Larm Borås AB is a security company that operates both in Borås and Skövde. Direct Larm delivers complete solutions within security and cooperates with the leading suppliers within each product area.

Direct Larm got the assignment together with Svagströms Elektriska to come up with a solution for fulfilling the need for an efficient and reliable camera surveillance of Borås Arena. It was important to find versatile, flexible software that could be integrated with other systems and supported cameras of various brands. It was also important for Borås Arena to find a complete, durable and reliable solution. Ethiris NVR-N Rack Solutions from Kentima met all these demands and hence all pieces fell into place.

Borås Arena is located in the middle of Knalleland with a spectator capacity of 18 000 seats. The arena is owned by Borås Arena AB, which is a subsidiary of IF Elfsborg. The arena was built in 2005 and was a role model for Swedish football.

The system in the arena is comprised by a complete, mid-size rack solution from Kentima. It contains 3 x NVR-N, i7 with 48ch Ethiris Premium including 5 years of free updates each, NAS with RAID configuration for video storage, high performance network switches, Power supply and a Smart UPS for reliable shutdown of included equipment. Included in the delivery were also four Ethiris NVC-1, i7 and two Ethiris NVC-2, i7 to create an optimal video presentation on six LED monitors.


The system is dimensioned for 96 cameras with redundancy via Ethiris Cluster. The cluster feature with redundancy means that if an Ethiris NVR-N server should fail, the other active servers automatically take over all tasks the failing server would have handled, without losing any information.

Ethiris provides the camera operator the possibility to quickly search a specific video sequence that has been stored and then playback the video for investigation at the same time recording occurs. In the control room, operators, security coordinators from each team and one or several policemen are sitting together and manage the system before, during and after the games. The objective is to prevent problems at the stand and to create a safer environment for all persons located inside or outside the arena.

In Ethiris you can perform several tasks simultaneously, which provides the operator access to advanced functions which increases safety for audience, officials and players. If for example a security guard/official on site discovers something that requires a closer investigation, they turn to the operator. The operator can quickly find the disturbance with help of Ethiris and zoom in on the corresponding area which police and other security personnel can take part of. Borås Arena has both fixed and moving cameras that can follow people from camera to camera in the system, all the way to the exit.
