At high altitude with Ethiris VMS

GKB Security Corporation has with Ethiris Video Management Software (VMS) from Kentima created a smart and innovative solution to avoid fire-related accidents in wind turbines. With the built-in scripting engine in Ethiris VMS, the system can easily be configured according to the customer’s specific wishes and requirements.

Taiwan-based GKB Security Corporation has been a long-time partner and customer of Kentima. The company has over 20 years of experience in the security industry and video surveillance. With projects around the world at banks, airports and museums, among others, the knowledge of how to start, run and finish professional and complicated projects has been refined into world-class results.

Taiwan is an important market for wind power and strives to create safe and reliable facilities. Therefore, the results have been achieved in the successful projects for disaster-prevention measures for wind turbines. The solution has been very well received and will be applied in several projects.

In this project, they have chosen to use Ethiris VMS, with license level Advanced.The system improves the safety of the wind turbine with the help of active alarm notification in Ethiris and with automatic fire extinguishing. This is the result of Ethiris VMS being integrated with GKB’s smoke/fire video detector with special extinguishing equipment. The integration has been carried out by SHING CHUN CO LTD for the end customer in the project, Cheng Loong Corporation (CLC).

After a serious fire-related accident in one of the wind turbines in Taiwan, parts of the wind turbines were equipped with GKB´s smart fire prevention measures. Nowadays, Ethiris VMS has a central and important role in this solution, with its unique properties and broad area of use.

Ethiris Server receives META data from fire/smoke detectors and BI spectrum thermal detectors, which then sends an alarm notification to the control station via the communication software LINE. In addition to this, Ethiris also provides real-time video, alarms via both sound and light signal and triggers the extinguishing equipment according to an automatic procedure. The solution with alarm notification is extremely important to avoid accidents in this project as users often handle many different tasks simultaneously and do not have the opportunity to control the monitors all the time.

Features of Ethiris VMS that are particularly appreciated in this solution are that it is easy to adapt and configure the software. Furthermore, it is valued that the user can get space for live video as AR effect (Augmented Reality) to show what is really happening in real time in the wind turbine. Custom alarms per site with unlimited activation conditions and the ability to associate these with cameras are other appreciated features.
