A complex production environment
doesn´t break Ethiris VMS

Dalarnas Säkerhets System AB (DSS), has installed Ethiris Video Management Software and selected cameras at the crispbread factory in Leksand. The purpose of the installation is mainly to monitor the loading and unloading hall, the gates and the loading docks.

Since 1817, the family has baked crispbread in Häradsbygden. Their story began with Jakobs Karin, great-grandmother’s grandmother, who was a good baker. Leksands Knäckebröd bakes with pure ingredients that have grown as close to the bakery as possible, no additives or other bakery aids. The water comes from a separate source under the bakery. The environment is important for Leksands Knäckebröd and they have been fossil-free since 2013 and reuse all electricity at least once. Through continuous improvements, the production capacity is now 250.000 bread cakes/day, about 8.000 tons of crispbread/year.

Dalarnas Säkerhets System AB was founded in 1991 and is an independent security company that sees personal collaboration and high quality as a prerequisite in relationships with its customers. DSS offers its customers services, supplier-independent products and complete security solutions. This means that the customer is offered a complete solution with everything from design to alarm reception and security efforts via one and the same supplier.

The facility at Leksands Knäckebröd needed a security system to monitor loading and unloading at the gates. DSS then chose to install a video surveillance system consisting of Ethiris VMS and selected cameras as a camera surveillance system. The reason for the monitoring is that there are requirements from the Swedish Customs that what happens during loading and unloading must be monitored, in order to prevent smuggling, terrorism and more.

DSS recommended Kentima’s Ethiris VMS because the customer had high demands on operational reliability, user-friendliness and the possibility of integration with other security systems. There are many functions that must work together, such as fire alarms, burglar alarms and controls and more. Ethiris VMS is best suited because the platform is well suited for large SCADA systems also for production environments. Ethiris is integrated with a security system from RCO. This means that the systems exchange information about alarm signals, e.g. triggers “Triggered burglar alarm” Ethiris VMS which then starts recording relevant cameras. With the help of Ethiris´ function “Motion Detection” you can delimit specific areas in the image and within that area trigger alarms when moving. This allows staff to work nearby without generating an alarm.

Another thing that is important to point out is the ”Uptime” in Ethiris, i.e. Ethiris server service, the system has been running since commissioning in January 2021 without server downtime. This demonstrates the operational reliability of Ethiris and that it is a very stable system, adds Håkan Heineman.
