Ethiris Access Service (EAS)

EAS is a completely new, optimized service that Kentima provides and that is built-in to Ethiris from version 13. The purpose is to facilitate connections from various Ethiris clients, for example Ethiris Mobile, to Ethiris Server over the Internet even though the public IP address to the computer where Ethiris Server runs may change.

Instead of entering an IP address when you connect to Ethiris Server you enter a so-called DNS name into the Ethiris clients that will connect to the premise.
 
Automatic handling of changed IP address
At a premise that subscribes for EAS, Ethiris Server at the premise will automatically update the current IP address for the premise to Kentima’s EAS servers. Hence, Kentima’s EAS servers always have updated information of the current IP address for each premise and the corresponding DNS name. To ensure that EAS always is available we have two different EAS servers at different locations to create a redundant system
 
The various Ethiris clients automatically connect to Kentima’s EAS servers when using EAS, send the entered DNS name and get the current IP address to the premise represented by the DNS name. In that wat Ethiris automatically handles the connection even though the IP address should have changed.
 
Choose DNS name
When subscribing for EAS you can choose your own DNS name provided it is available. Each name has to be unique. In Ethiris Admin, in the tab “EAS” you activate the service. Here, you also enter the DNS name you have agreed on with Kentima.
 
Should the public IP address for the computer running Ethiris Server change, Ethiris handles this automatically and makes sure that clients connecting to the corresponding DNS name will be directed to the new IP address.



 

The name will be automatically updated in the corresponding client configurations.

 

In Ethiris Mobile you just choose to use Ethiris Access Service and then enter the DNS name.
