When DollarStore wanted to upgrade their existing surveillance system, TKK Stockholm Security Installation AB recommended them to use Ethiris NVR from Kentima. They work continuously to replace existing systems in the Swedish stores and at the main warehouse in Örebro. With Ethiris NVR and cameras, security is maintained for both customers and staff.

TKK Stockholm Security Installation AB proposed a professional video surveillance system from Kentima consisting of powerful, cost-effective and reliable Ethiris VMS/NVR, in response to the request DollarStore has issued. The existing system is gradually being replaced with products from Kentima, while taking the opportunity to upgrade to new cameras.

DollarStore currently has about 130 stores in Sweden and is the fastest growing discount chain, with stores from Gällivare in the north to Trelleborg in the south. The success concept began in a small scrub at the Ahlberg family’s home in Sundsvall, and the first store of 400 sqm opened in 1999 in Billsta, just outside Örnsköldsvik. The retail space has grown continuously and each individual store now has an area of 3,000–4,200 square meters. DollarStore has approximately 1,300 employees and is headquartered in Kista, Stockholm.

Ethiris NVR units (Network Video Recorder) are used as servers for connection to, among other things, all cameras in the store and provide the possibility of a large number of functions for video surveillance. Among other things, for recording/playback of video to externally connected Ethiris clients.

DollarStore has a high security mindset and the surveillance is part of the security system where you retrieve video from the servers in case of incidents, such as shoplifting and theft.

The video surveillance system Ethiris VMS from Kentima helps to reduce theft and fraud, but it also works preventively to protect customers and staff from violence. By combining Ethiris NVR with intelligent cameras with video analysis such as motion detection and people counters in entrances, opportunities are also obtained to collect data and use the technology as a tool to optimize, for example, staffing in the store and thus increase profitability.

At present, about 70 stores are in operation and about 1,700 cameras are installed. Thanks to the performance of the central Ethiris client, the IT security department at the head office gets access to all stores, which is an advantage for effective security work. They have a basic set consisting of an Ethiris NVR-1 with up to 32 cameras or an Ethiris NVR-2 with up to 64 cameras, since the need for cameras and performance varies between stores.
