Ethiris VMS 9.0 - A Secure Choice
In a mission-critical facility, protecting the information is crucial. Video makes no exception. In version 9.0 of Ethiris we have introduced the possibility to encrypt all information sent between the different Ethiris modules, all the way from the camera to the client.
Another important feature of a security system is to be able to communicate with the outside world. Ethiris has always been cutting edge software when it comes to communication and now we take one step further by introducing database communication, which means that Ethiris can store and read information to/from databases. An incredibly exciting new feature in Ethiris 9.0 is the possibility to display web pages directly in Ethiris Client. Apart from presenting any web page you can run WideQuick projects via WideQuick Web Client in such views. This opens up huge opportunities to create truly powerful user interfaces.
To increase the security even more, the security when communicating with cameras has been improved by support for https. We have implemented support for SSL (Secure Socket Layer) for all types of TCP/http listeners in Ethiris. Furthermore, e-mail can now be sent via an SMTP server that requires SSL.
Besides the possibility to store and read information specific to Ethiris, database communication also opens up for large possibilities to communicate with other systems via a database.
Another very exciting possibility is to run a WideQuick view directly in Ethiris Client by using WideQuick Web Client. In such way you can for example create a user interface for entering values into Ethiris. One example where this is useful is searching for license plate numbers that have been stored in a database by Ethiris. It is quite easy to build a feature where the corresponding video clip automatically is played back in Ethiris Player.
Ethiris 9.0 contains support for Samsung/Hanwha series Q, X and P including H.265.
In Ethiris Client we have introduced the possibility to both decrease and increase the refresh rate for live video. Before, it was a fixed refresh rate. This means that you can view live video with very high frame rate (> 60 fps), provided that the hardware is powerful enough. It also means that you can decrease the refresh rate if the hardware doesn’t meet the requirements and thus get a smother viewing experience.
Ethiris Mobile has got a new privilege for controlling access to the camera list. The privilege also controls access to the swipe feature between different cameras in the mobile app.
A since long anticipated new feature is that Ethiris Server now has a NTP server function (Network Time Protocol). It means that Ethiris Server can act as an NTP server, so other computers and devices, such as cameras, can synchronize their system clocks against Ethiris Server.
The text object, which can display miscellaneous information in Ethiris client, now can have a transparent background.
Ethiris ActiveX control is now available in both 64 and 32 bit versions, which means that it can be used in both 32-bit and 64-bit applications.
Enhanced Security
In version 9.0 of Ethiris, full encryption is enabled by default. This means that all communication between the different Ethiris components is encrypted. It applies to Ethiris Server, Ethiris Client, Ethiris Admin, Ethiris Mobile, Ethiris Server OPC Server and Ethiris ActiveX. Also WideQuick, from version 8.0, uses encrypted communication with Ethiris Server. To increase the security even more, the security when communicating with cameras has been improved by support for https. We have implemented support for SSL (Secure Socket Layer) for all types of TCP/http listeners in Ethiris. Furthermore, e-mail can now be sent via an SMTP server that requires SSL.
Support for Database
With the new support for database communication, Ethiris can log important information, such as license plate numbers from an LPR camera, directly into a SQL database. All the four standard database operations, SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE, are supported. It means that Ethiris also can read information from databases.Besides the possibility to store and read information specific to Ethiris, database communication also opens up for large possibilities to communicate with other systems via a database.
Web Browser in Ethiris Client
A web browser function directly in Ethiris Client provides great opportunities to communicate information to the operator. Desired URL is predefined for the camera view which will display the web page. The camera view can be part of any client view and can, for example, be a popup window which will be activated on certain events. The web page can contain instructions for the operator about which actions are required in various situations.Another very exciting possibility is to run a WideQuick view directly in Ethiris Client by using WideQuick Web Client. In such way you can for example create a user interface for entering values into Ethiris. One example where this is useful is searching for license plate numbers that have been stored in a database by Ethiris. It is quite easy to build a feature where the corresponding video clip automatically is played back in Ethiris Player.
Enhanced Camera Support
To be able to provide a secure communication between Ethiris Server and the cameras, Ethiris now supports RTSP over HTTPS. This means that all communication with the cameras can be encrypted. This applies to cameras connected via ONVIF, Generic, Axis (probed cameras) or Samsung/Hanwha (series Q, X and P).Ethiris 9.0 contains support for Samsung/Hanwha series Q, X and P including H.265.
Major Increase of Performance
We continue our work for increased performance and Ethiris’ ability to utilize the CPU of the computer to a maximum. It puts Ethiris in the absolute top in the world. Despite this, we have been able to squeeze a little more juice out of Ethiris and have made a major increase in performance. When viewing live video in multiple popup windows and/or on multiple monitors the performance is much better compared to earlier versions of Ethiris. Also Ethiris ActiveX has got a huge performance increase.
More Flexible Authorization
In line with our work devoted to cloud services we have introduced new privileges to be able to control who has access to viewing system alarms and camera alarms. As a result, several customers can share a common Ethiris Server and each customer will only see information about their own cameras. This means Ethiris fits very well in cloud solutions.Ethiris Mobile has got a new privilege for controlling access to the camera list. The privilege also controls access to the swipe feature between different cameras in the mobile app.
OTHER NEWS
In a video surveillance system it is extremely important that all the system clocks are synchronized. It is a huge advantage if the time in the different parts of the system is the same, for example when investigating video from different cameras.A since long anticipated new feature is that Ethiris Server now has a NTP server function (Network Time Protocol). It means that Ethiris Server can act as an NTP server, so other computers and devices, such as cameras, can synchronize their system clocks against Ethiris Server.
