Ethiris VMS 13.0 – New services with Universal license

The new version of Ethiris VMS contains many very exciting news. Please, download our brochure that describes all news in Ethiris VMS 13.0. Below is a short overview of all that is new.

In this version we launch a completely new license model, Universal, in addition to the current license model that still will be available as an alternative. Universal can be considered as a service since it is based on a monthly subscription. In addition to Universal we release another service, Ethiris Access Service (EAS), that is a kind of DNS service to facilitate connections to Ethiris over the Internet.

Universal
Universal is a completely new license model based on a subscription model with a monthly fee instead of a larger one-time fee. The model is very flexible since the user herself can decide which function level to use and the number of connected cameras after ordering a subscription and can change these at any time during the subscription period.
 
Universal can be used in any imaginable premise that wants to use Ethiris. It can be both cloud-based systems running in a hosted environment like Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services, but it might as well be in one or several local computers at a premise. We always recommend using an NVR from Kentima, but you can also use any Windows computer with sufficient performance. 
 
Ethiris Access Service (EAS)
EAS is a completely new, optimized DNS service provided by Kentima that is built-in to Ethiris from version 13. The purpose is to facilitate connections from various Ethiris clients, for example Ethiris Mobile, to Ethiris Server over the Internet even though the computer running Ethiris Server has a public IP address that might be changed.
 
Using EAS is optional. From version 13 the feature is built-in to Ethiris Server, Ethiris Mobile and Ethiris Client. The service is available in all license levels, Free – Universal. But to use it you have to order a subscription of the service. 
 
Single Sign On (SSO)
SSO is a feature for automatic logon to Ethiris using the user that is already logged on to Windows. The function must be activated in Ethiris Admin and is turned off by default. Even though SSO is activated you can log on as usual in Ethiris Client should you want to log on as another user than the one logged on to Windows.
 
Automatic export of video
Sometimes the operator’s work can be stressful, and it is easy to forget important tasks. To ensure that important video always gets exported we have introduced a possibility to export video automatically by script for desired cameras and time interval. If audio is recorded, this will automatically accompany the export. There is also a possibility to export variable values that have been logged during the desired time interval.  
 
Other news in script
Besides from the new class ExportJob, there are some other script news in version 13. A couple of these facilitates sending email with attached camera images in a flexible way. Another news is about handling of dates. We have also updated the interaction objects such as all of them now sends the event onObjectClicked whenever an operator clicks them.
 
Create views in the client
By default, in Ethiris all configuration is created via Ethiris Admin. The idea behind this is related to security since you often want to separate the users of the system from the administrators of the system. So, the one using Ethiris Client normally has no access to change the configuration in the system. But there are occasions when an operator has the need to create their own client views with a set of cameras that are interesting at the moment. This is especially true in businesses with active surveillance where the operator uses the system actively in live mode, for example when surveilling the stands at a football match or at a demonstration in the streets.
 
Therefore, we now introduce a possibility to create new client views directly in the client and save these for the current Windows user and the current client configuration at the local client computer. These views are added as view buttons after the view buttons created in advance via Ethiris Admin. The views will remain as long as you want and can be manually deleted if desired.
 
Multiple instances of Ethiris Server
A very exciting news is the possibility to run multiple instances of Ethiris Server in the one and same computer. It is especially useful in various hosting environments when you want to let several customers share the same hardware to be able to create a cost-efficient solution. Each instance is totally isolated from the other instances, and you can easily make configuration changes for one customer without affecting the others.
 
Alarm filter
False alarms can be a big and costly problem, not the least in an alarm central where the operators spend a lot of time to verify each alarm, false as well as genuine alarms. By adding extra conditions for when the alarms should be activated in Ethiris script you can decrease the false alarms. By using Ethiris you have since long been able to customize a system via the very flexible and powerful script engine. Through the years we have gained a lot of experience about how script is used at all the premises with Ethiris and when we detect recurring patterns, we always try to add these functions directly in Ethiris so our customers don’t have to use script more than necessary. This time we have introduced an alarm filter which facilitates decreasing false alarms without having to enter the wonderful world of scripting.
 
Optimizations
Everyone wants to have access to quick and efficient tools in their daily work. The opposite creates frustration and irritation. Hence, we are keen on optimizing Ethiris as much as possible and through the years we have delivered thousand folded performance increases within certain areas. In version 13 we have made huge enhancements in the handling of domain user groups and Ethiris can now manage tens of thousands of groups without any delay. Ethiris tends to be used in ever larger systems and another example of optimization in version 13 is at start-up and reload of Ethiris Client in large configurations with many connected Ethiris Server.
 
Enhanced alarm handling
We have now introduced a new sum alarm for alarm groups that supplements the other existing sum alarm such as it is now easier to use the sum alarm in practice. The new version also includes operator alarm enhancements. Finally, we have improved the handling of systems where more than one Ethiris Admin is connected to the same Ethiris Server.
