Tetra Pak Makes Quite An Entrance With Ethiris VMS
By using Ethiris Video Management Software, Tetra Pak is in complete control of who is let in and out of their facilities. With the handling of ”Calls” in Ethiris, the guard’s works is tremendously simplified.
Tetra Pak is world leading within food and beverage process- and package solutions. In close cooperation with their customers and suppliers, Tetra Pak delivers secure, innovative and environmental products that on a daily basis reach hundreds of millions of people in more than 170 countries worldwide. The company delivered to its first customer in 1952 and has today passed 23 000 employees in more than 85 different countries. Their motto ”PROTECTS WHAT’S GOOD”, reflects the vision to make food safe and available, everywhere.”I’m very pleased with Kentima’s products; the flexibility in Ethiris allows us to easily create a custom-made solution that facilitates the security work”, says Stefan Greén, Security Officer, Tetra Pak.
Tetra Pak and Kentima got in contact with each other via a partner of Kentima’s, Access Teknik, who has worked with Kentima’s products for a long time. Tetra Pak was in need of a sophisticated and sustainable solution for video surveillance of their gates and entrances, for instance for their two locations in Lund. Approximately 4000 persons pass through the entrances at Tetra Pak on a daily basis.
Access Teknik has installed two servers which run Ethiris Server, that in return runapproximately 40 cameras in a cluster configuration with 100 % redundancy. Cluster function with redundancy means that if a server fails, the other server will immediately take over the tasks of the failed server, without any loss of information. The servers are also placed in geographically different locations to further secure the system from for example a power failure.
How does Ethiris VMS work in the facilities of Tetra Pak then? The guards that use the surveillance system are located in guard stations at all the entrances, but their systems are connected. If one guard closes its client, for example at the end of the work day, the calls will automatically be sent forward to another guard. A call is when someone presses the entry phone at a gate, then a camera view, containing one or several cameras and a control panel with gate control buttons, is displayed on the guard’s monitor. Simultaneously the guard’s phone is ringing, and the guard then decides if the person is to be let in or not. If there are many calls at the same time, these will be handled in a queue system. The guard signs the calls after complete handling, letting the next call in line to be displayed. By specifying criteria one can choose to which guard the call should be forwarded to, if the primary guard isn’t available. This function is called dynamic client control. In Ethiris one monitor constantly shows the guard overview images, rounds and camera views of the last four calls.
At the startup of a guard client, an overview map of the area of which the guard handles, and via short cut keys specific to the watch area, other overview maps can also be shown.
”We know that Kentima’s products are top quality and provide satisfied customers, that’s why we’re happy to use them in our projects”, says Jim Borglin, Access Teknik AB.
