WideQuick HMI/SCADA - Airport Lighting Control Systems

Safegate Kentima HMI Panel

ADB Safegate uses Kentima’s WideQuick HMI/SCADA Software as a platform when they deliver PLC based airport lighting control systems to airports worldwide.

ADB Safegate’s office in Finland is located in Vantaa and the company’s head offices are placed in Malmö, Sweden and Zaventem, Belgium. ADB Safegate is the market leader in its field and one of the biggest airport technology providers on the market.

ADB Safegate delivers control systems based on WideQuick HMI/SCADA to different airports all over the world. Their system is called Safecontrol PLC or IDM 7600 and uses HMI for air traffic controllers, CWP (Controller Working Position) and technical maintenance staff,  TWP (Technical Working Position).

As the need arose to replace their old HMI platform, WideQuick had functions that were crucial to fulfill their future needs. The PLC communication, DB connection and the simplicity to create desired functionality with the use of object properties, as well as the flexibility to use script throughout the application, were a few of the most important features to seal the deal for ADB Safegate.

ADB Safegate has developed an HMI platform application based on Kentima’s HMI/SCADA Software WideQuick. Each control system is unique, but is built on standard components and functions, which are then being modified to fit each specific project. They use WideQuick as an HMI, and via their PLC, their system can connect to other external systems. In general, a typical system that ADB Safegate delivers, has approximately 1-4 HMI systems.

”We are very happy with WideQuick. It has improved our efficiency in delivering systems”, says Jarmo Karttunen, Product Manager/Control Systems ADB Safegate.

All configuration to create desired HMI system, is carried out with WideQuick Designer and in this way ADB Safegate has been able to improve and streamline their HMI projects and shorten development time.

In addition to using WideQuick HMI/SCADA Software, ADB Safegate also uses industrial computers and operator panels from Kentima. WideQuick HMI Panel is a series very powerful and flexible operator panels. ADB Safegate has also begun to use the WideQuick Designer to produce hardware drawings for each project.

”As a new thing, we are using WideQuick as a CAD to produce hardware system, layout and wiring diagrams”, says Jarmo Karttunen.

The hardware consists of standard cabinets and industrial automation components. By defining the components as WideQuick objects with given properties and using some scripting, they are able to design the hardware cabinets efficiently but also to check that the components fit in the cabinets, meet the project specifications and calculate cabinet weights and hardware cost estimations etc. It is also possible to include the hardware drawings in the HMI applications, but the best thing about this is that they now have one tool less to learn and maintain.
