Ethiris Video Wall
– Full control of the facility!

Ethiris VMS Video Management Software video wall

The new version of Ethiris VMS includes a host of new features. One of the most significant new additions is a brand-new feature for creating video walls, which makes it incredibly easy to set up everything from a small video wall with just a few monitors to entire control centres where multiple clients work together to create a video wall comprising a large number of monitors.

In addition to the brand-new feature for creating video walls, we have optimised the video player so that operators can search through video footage at up to 192 times normal speed. We have also improved our handling of analysis data/metadata that can be sent from various cameras, so that Ethiris VMS can utilise more types of analysis and works well with a wider range of camera models.

The powerful scripting engine in Ethiris VMS is key to success in projects where that little bit extra is required in the form of flexible functions. We have now added even more useful scripting functions, such as the representation of alarm and event objects, as well as support for video wall control.

Read on to find out more about these and several other new features in Ethiris 17.0.

Video wall
Version 17.0 introduces a completely new concept for creating video walls.

One or more video walls, each comprising the desired number of monitors, are defined in Ethiris Server, which manages the current content displayed on the video walls.v
In one or more Ethiris Clients, video wall views are created, each of which points to a specific monitor in a specific video wall. The video wall clients retrieve the current content from the Ethiris Server. In this way, a large video wall can be built using multiple Ethiris Clients to ensure sufficient performance for displaying video on the various monitors.

In the Ethiris Client, you can also define video wall representations that the operator can use to work directly with the video wall via their own local client. The operator can drag and drop cameras from the camera list onto the video wall representation to select different cameras for different views directly on the video wall. Multiple operators can work simultaneously on the same video wall.

Each operator can display recorded video on the video wall and control the current playback via their local video player.

All video wall functions are available via scripts, where, for example, you can create predefined layouts and menus for the video wall.

The video wall functions require an option + Premium licence level or Universal level 6.6.

Video player
The video player has been optimised to support playback at speeds of up to 192 times normal speed, enabling the operator to quickly search through large volumes of video. This is achieved by the video player automatically switching to display only so-called I-frames when playing back at 4 times normal speed or higher.

Metadata
Cameras with built-in analytics can often send analytics data as so-called metadata to a VMS, such as Ethiris VMS. The format of this metadata can vary from camera to camera, and it is difficult to know in advance what this format will look like.

Ethiris VMS can now receive all metadata regardless of its format, allowing the system integrator to handle the raw data and take appropriate action based on the information sent from the camera. This involves a little more work for the system integrator, but opens up the possibility of utilising analytics from the vast majority of cameras.
Extended metadata handling requires an Advanced or Universal Level 4 licence.

Script improvements
In addition to all the new script functions for controlling a video wall, version 17.0 includes a number of other new script functions.

Object representations are now available for every alarm and event in scripts. In addition, there are Collection objects for all Alarms and all Events, making it easy to iterate over alarms and events.

There are new properties for camera objects that display the status of various checkboxes in the configuration, such as InUse, IOActive, EventsActive & MetadataActive.

The SaveImage method has been improved so that the entire specified path is created automatically provided the root directory exists.

Updated interface
Both Ethiris Client and Ethiris Admin now feature a new, modern interface.

The tabs in Ethiris Client can now be locked via the configuration so that an operator cannot move or close the tabs. This can save support many calls from operators who cannot ‘find their way back’ to the standard layout in the client.

Support for the NVX Series 4
In autumn 2025, we released a new generation of hardware in our NVR/NVC/NVP models, based on the latest CPUs from Intel (14th generation). Version 17.0 of Ethiris VMS supports reading current hardware information, such as temperatures and fan speeds, from the new hardware.

It is now also possible to choose whether a specific client should send hardware information or not.

Camera support
A brand new camera plugin has been added, this time for the Funkwerk camera brand, which uses multicast.

We have made improvements to vandalism detection by allowing you to select which sub-functions should be active: bright image, dark image and scene change/camera direction changed.

There is now a copy function for video encoders where all included cameras are copied.

Camera list
The camera list in the Ethiris Client, which contains all available cameras in the configuration, can now display the cameras in a tree view that reflects the organisation of cameras into camera groups.

The camera list now also supports dragging and dropping cameras onto live panels, the video player and video wall displays.

Camera groups
It has previously been possible to create camera groups to organise cameras into suitable groups. You can now also create camera groups within camera groups at any desired level of depth. Recording settings are inherited from the parent group but can be overridden for individual camera groups.

Joystick/Keypad
New button functions are now available for: Manual recording, Play/Pause & fast-forward/rewind for patrols. We have also introduced a new function for selecting cameras and presets via the keypad by entering a number with a customisable number of digits.

Ethiris Cluster
Ethiris Cluster is a concept designed to provide redundancy in an Ethiris VMS system, where multiple servers work together in a cluster to take over cameras should one or more servers in the cluster fail. The concept automatically designates a Master server, which distributes the workload among the member servers.

It is now possible to prioritise cameras specifically for the Master in the cluster. Cameras can also be prioritised across multiple levels to ensure that the most important cameras continue to operate even if the cluster is running at reduced capacity due to multiple servers having failed, resulting in a shortage of camera licences within the cluster.

Efficiency
To increase the efficiency of the system integrator’s work, we have introduced the ability to import a configuration from another server. Camera groups, cameras and schedules are included in the import. This feature is very useful if you wish to merge several configurations into a larger one, for example, as a result of upgrading the hardware to a more powerful model.

Another new feature is the ability to define application settings via a predefined user.config file, which can in turn be distributed to client computers running the Ethiris Client.

Security
We have introduced a new privilege: View alarm group. This can be used to restrict access to alarms in the Ethiris Client so that only authorised users can view them.

Other
There are now much more detailed options for configuring the client’s start-up settings, allowing you, for example, to specify which panels should be displayed and, if so, where they should be docked.

It is now also possible to hide pop-up windows so that they do not appear in the client’s list of pop-up windows, meaning they can be used automatically but not manually by the operator.
