News in Ethiris Mobile 5.142 for Android

Kentima has released a new version of Ethiris Mobile for Android. Ethiris Mobile is an app that connects to one or more Ethiris VMS to display live and recorded video.

The new version includes support for decoding video directly in the app.

The app supports Ethiris Server 14.2 (stand alone server) or later and Android 13.0 (Tiramisu) or later.

Ethiris Mobile 5.142 for Android is available on Google Play from now on.

Support for decoding video directly in the app
In the new version of Ethiris Mobile for Android, video is decoded by default directly in the app. H.265, H.264, and MPEG-4 are supported. This means that Ethiris Server can send video directly to Ethiris Mobile without having to transcode video. This in turn relieves Ethiris Server, which can then send more simultaneous mobile video streams when running on a certain hardware compared to previous versions of Ethiris Mobile. This is especially true if several mobiles are showing live video at the same time. Previously, Ethiris Server had to transcode video for all connected mobiles, now the load is distributed to each mobile phone.

This further means that the load on the mobile will be higher. This is normally not a problem with modern mobile phones, but if the mobile for some reason would not be able to handle the job of decoding video, it is still possible to run in the old way, ie to let Ethiris Server transcode video before sending it to Ethiris Mobile.

New Android operating system
Ethiris Mobile 5.142 supports the latest operating system for Android, 13.0. This means that Ethiris Mobile supports Android 5 and later.

New Ethiris Server
Ethiris Mobile 5.142 supports the latest version of Ethiris, version 14.2. This means that the new Ethiris Mobile supports Ethiris 5.6 and later. Viewing of recorded video requires Ethiris 5.10 or later.
NB! Ethiris Mobile currently only supports stand-alone servers, i.e. not Ethiris Cluster.
