On ice in Vasaparken with WideQuick HMI/SCADA

When looking to replace older cooling units and associated heat recovery systems for the artificial grass pitch and skating rink in Vasaparken, the City of Stockholm found that it needed SCADA functionality. Francks Kylindustri i Stockholm AB put forward a solution that used Kentima’s WideQuick HMI/SCADA, and was awarded the contract.

Stockholm’s many parks bring the city and nature together. They create green spaces for community activities, relaxation and exercise, and function as popular meeting places. During the winter, the artificial grass pitch in Vasaparken is sprayed with water to form a large and popular skating rink that is open to the general public.

The City of Stockholm looked to implement SCADA functionality when starting the process of replacing older cooling units and associated heat recycling systems for the artificial grass and skating rink in Vasaparken. Franck Kylindustri AB won the tender with its solution based on WideQuick HMI/SCADA after giving a presentation of Kentima’s solutions.

The control system, made by SAIA, communicates via Modbus TCP using Kentima’s H519 HMI panel. The WideQuick application, which handles monitoring of the installation, can be accessed by the City of Stockholm and its operational contractors online using web clients. Both the cooling unit and associated systems can be monitored and adjusted via the HMI panel or a remote connection. All temperatures, pressures, set values, alarms, output signals, and stoppages are logged. The equipment also makes adjustments so that the ice is of a good quality and does so in an energy efficient manner.

”WideQuick is very user-friendly and has broad functionality”, says Björn Kjellsson, Automation Engineer, Francks Kylindustri i Stockholm AB.

Since 1950, Francks Kylindustri has found itself at the vanguard of developments in the field of industrial technical solutions, helping customers maintain their productivity whilst also reducing energy consumption and limiting the environmental impact of their actions. Francks has offices throughout Sweden. They can cool and heat, and are continually driven by the challenges their customers present by creating innovative solutions according to customers’ specific requirements. Francks guarantees productivity throughout the service life of the entire installation and develops it as needs and the world around it change. WideQuick HMI/SCADA Panel, used in conjunction with WideQuick Web Client and WideQuick Remote, offers a flexible structure that affords the opportunity to build the required system solution.

Francks Kylindustri and other system integrators use WideQuick Designer to develop and configure WideQuick projects, regardless of whether it is an HMI, SCADA, or PSIM application. WideQuick Designer is a powerful application that is included in the package and affords an intuitive and flexible configuration environment. Project times are shortened thanks to smart functions, live preview inspection, and fast configuration of communication.

”This was a really good solution for us. By having WideQuick as our monitoring system, we got a simple overview of the installation”, says Bo Höglund, Park Engineer, City of Stockholm.

Björn Kjellsson of Francks Kylindustri has worked with many different HMI/SCADA system manufacturers. “No other solution I have found has been as easy to learn as Kentima’s WideQuick. Its script functionality means that you can do practically whatever you want”.
