Ethiris VMS 15.2 – A safe choice

The new version of Ethiris VMS contains several different new features to further improve the security of the product. A brand new support for 2FA (Two-factor authentication) ensures that the right people get access to the system. Also new is the ability to determine the strength/complexity that a password must have in order to be approved.

In this release, we have focused on further increasing the security of Ethiris VMS. In addition to this, we have introduced floating camera licenses in our Universal license model, which means that the user can determine the maximum number of cameras that can be used at the same time and thus get even better control of the monthly fee.

The powerful scripting engine in Ethiris VMS is a key to success in projects where the system integrator needs to customize the system with advanced functionality. Now we have improved the popular CameraCollection class so that instances of it can be initialized with alarm objects and thus loaded with its associated cameras. New methods on the Clients object simplify the handling of pop-up windows.

Read on to find out more about these and several other news in Ethiris 15.2.
Enhanced security
Version 15.2 allows an administrator to determine the security level of passwords for the users on the system. It is possible to choose between requiring a certain strength for a password or a certain complexity, i.e. what types of characters the password must contain and how long it must be. In addition, it is possible to decide whether the password must be changed after a certain number of days.
2FA (Two-factor authentication)
Two-factor authentication is a well-established way to ensure that the right people are accessing a system. In the new version of Ethiris VMS, two-factor authentication can be activated so that all Ethiris users, when logging in, must enter both their password and a one-time code that is generated in their phone. The solution works offline and is based on the use of an app that supports TOTP (Time based One Time Password). Each user creates an account for the specific Ethiris facility by scanning a QR code that Ethiris VMS generates the first time the user logs in. When signing in, users must enter both their password and a six-digit one-time code generated by the authenticator app on their phone. This feature requires a Premium or Universal Level 6 license.
OAuth token
To support high security for autonomous systems using the Ethiris SDK, it is now possible to create an OAuth token for the desired user. In this way, logging in via the Ethiris SDK can be done without the need to enter an OTP (One Time Password).
Floating camera licenses
Floating camera licenses is a concept that has been around for a long time for Ethiris systems with a Premium license level. The aim is to offer a cost-effective license when the number of physically connected cameras to the system varies. It is the number of simultaneously active cameras that is limited by the license, which means that only the licensed number of cameras can be active at the same time.

We've now introduced floating camera licenses for Universal Level 6 as well. Universal is a subscription-based licensing model where the number of cameras used for each month is invoiced. By setting the maximum number of simultaneous active cameras that can be used in Ethiris Admin, you can ensure that the maximum number of cameras will be invoiced per month even if there are more cameras in the configuration.
Scripting improvements
The class CameraCollection can now take an alarm object as an argument in the constructor. This will load the object with the cameras associated with the alarm. In this way, the cameras associated with an alarm can be easily managed. e.g. when the alarm is activated.

The Clients object has received new methods for adding and removing displayed cameras from a pop-up window. With this news in the scripting engine, for example, when an alarm is activated, its associated cameras can easily be displayed in a pop-up window, and when the alarm is reset, the associated cameras can be removed from the pop-up window.
Ethiris SDK
  • Ethiris SDK is already a well-developed feature in Ethiris VMS. In this release, we've added some minor improvements:
  • Support for 2FA and login with OAuth tokens.
  • The list of variables that have been added to an SDK configuration can now be sorted. All columns can be sorted descending, ascending, or not at all. One column at a time can be sorted.
  • Support for the Alarm and Event variable types.
  • New methods on the camera object for starting/stopping recording. New properties Address and PreEventTime.
Other news
Extended statistics information for cameras in Ethiris Admin: GOP length and flag for B-frames.

Import multiple script libraries at the same time.

Now a client configuration in Ethiris Client can be opened by right-clicking on it in the server's configuration in Ethiris Admin without having to load the actual client configuration in Ethiris Admin first.

The cameras in the tree view in Ethiris Admin can now be sorted with drag-and-drop. In the table of connected cameras in the Cameras panel, the Name column can be sorted in a fourth way, in tree view order. For each click in a column header, the next sorting method is selected. In the name column, the sorting options are Descending, Ascending, Tree View Order, and Unsorted. In the unsorted order, any video servers are held together with dashes so that the cameras that belong to it are clearly shown.

From Ethiris Client, the current event list can be exported to a CSV file. The export takes into account any filter and exports only the rows that match the filter.

The relative size and position of a pop-up window can now be specified. Percentages are then entered, e.g. 50% for the pop-up window to automatically appear correctly regardless of the current screen resolution.
