WideQuick SCADA monitor the Baltic Sea’s most climate-smart port
Automation i Trelleborg AB (AiT) has implemented WideQuick SCADA to migrate from an older system and to visualize equipment that is covered by the Trelleborg harbor expansion. AiT has a long-term relationship with Kentima and has used both WideQuick HMI/SCADA and Ethiris VMS in their projects.
The port of Trelleborg is one of northern Europe’s most important hubs for sea transport to and from Scandinavia. It is the Baltic Sea’s most climate-smart port and this means that you have to be at the forefront, both technically and environmentally and in terms of capacity. The entire port area is now being expanded with 500,000 square meters of land mass, which has meant that Sweden has been extended by half a kilometer to the south. The 3 km long piers will not only provide the port with conditions for marine life but also docks for cruise ships and buildings for activities such as logistics and trade.
The port project runs until 2025, where AiT will deliver WideQuick and the integration for all ferry locations and bypass systems. The port’s facility consists of many different systems purchased from different suppliers. All systems are designed with the possibility of connection to a superior SCADA via ethernet.
This is mainly used for visualization of front ramps, process images and alarm handling. Visualization also takes place of bunkering stations for all ferry locations, for example registration of ferry on quay, approval of bunkering from control room, alarm handling, logging of used fresh water and logging of pumped gray/ black water from ferry and shipping company. A report is also generated here for invoicing consumption and pumped gray/black water, as well as visualization of alarms at pump, transformation stations and lighting towers.
”We have created a unique superior SCADA system with the best conditions for a port at the absolute cutting edge of technology”, says David Varga, Automation Ingeneer, AiT AB.
AiT has implemented WideQuick SCADA to migrate from an older system and to visualize equipment covered by the port’s rebuild. Decisive for the choice of WideQuick was unique functionality and the ability to use both web clients and Runtime clients. Another important factor was also that the products are developed by Kentima and have an attractive price point.
The WideQuick SCADA project is divided into two steps where the first delivery took place at the end of 2020. The second part is planned for the turn of the year 2021/2022.
”It was not surprising that the choice fell on WideQuick, here we were off-
ered unique details that were crucial”, says Håkan Nilsson, Team Manager Operation & Maintenance, Trelleborgs Hamn AB.
AiT considers the installation of WideQuick have been clear and simple. All software is installed on a virtual server and the support of new operating systems is good. AiT has also made an upgrade of WideQuick after the initial installation, the entire application worked immediately and the project could continue without interruption. AiT has a long-standing relationship with Kentima and has used both WideQuick HMI/ SCADA, WideQuick HMI Panel/Box and Ethiris VMS in their projects.
”In the event that AiT has had problems or requests, Kentima has always had these implemented or solved in
later versions of WideQuick”, adds David Varga.
In connection with AiT making the decision to work with Kentima’s products, most of their employees attended a customized training at Kentima’s premises in Staffanstorp.
