Focus on Flexibility - WideQuick Streamlines Production
Göteborgs Kex is the leading manufacturer of biscuits in Scandinavia. For over a century Swedes have nibbled on biscuits and crackers from Göteborgs Kex. With Kentima’s software WideQuick the company has created simplicity, flexibility, and not least mobility in production.
North of Gothenburg, Göteborgs Kex is Kungälv’s largest private employer with about 500 employees, and the centrally located factory has been naturally integrated into the city.
Since 1994, Göteborgs Kex is part of the Norwegian Orkla group of businesses and the bakery now produces biscuits and crackers to the Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish markets.
A few years ago, Göteborgs Kex installed three new flexible packing lines, which could run products from three different flows. There was a need to monitor production and to easily visualise what line ran what as well as the line status. To provide a good visual control of production and to simplify as much as possible for the operators, large screens were chosen. These indicate production status with OEE, line mode and alarm via colour indication. The system also saves historical data that can be used for debugging purposes.
In order to display the data, an easy to use and affordable SCADA system was needed. The choice fell on WideQuick, which turned out to work very well and furthermore has an advantageous starter kit with development licenses and training.
”WideQuick Web Client has provided us with great possibilites of mobility. In addition it is flexible and easy to use,” says Anders Bosson, Automation Engineer Göteborgs Kex.
Shortly after Kentima had presented the solution with Web Client, two mechatronics engineers from Chalmers requested to do their degree project at Göteborgs Kex. This meant that Göteborgs Kex could immediately take the step towards a well-functioning mobile solution.
”The support we have received from Kentima during the students’ degree project has been absolutely superb,” adds Anders Bosson.
