Ethiris VMS 16.0 – Keeping an eye on the world around us
In this release, we have focused on increasing the reliability and usability of our systems. For example, the system clock can now also be synchronized in computers that only run Ethiris Client, which makes it possible for the clocks in all parts of the system to run the same, which in turn makes it easier for the operators and in the event of a criminal investigation.
The powerful scripting engine in Ethiris VMS is a key to success in projects where that little extra in the form of flexible features is required. Now we have taken a big grip on Alarms and Events, which now have their own representations in the form of objects in the scripting engine. This provides great benefits in scripting and leads to more efficient scripting code.
Read on to find out more about these and several other news in Ethiris 16.0.
Ethiris Monitor
Ethiris Monitor is a new process that is installed together with Ethiris Server and Ethiris Client. The purpose is to monitor the Ethiris NVR, NVC or NVP that the Ethiris VMS is running on and thus be able to detect any problems with the device in good time to increase operational reliability. The process monitors the fans that are in the device as well as different temperatures of the motherboard and possibly graphics card.Temperature values and fan speeds are available as discrete variables in the data store for any use, e.g. in scripts. Alarms are also automatically created for fans that stop working and if a temperature is too high in the unit.
Ethiris Monitor requires Extended or Universal Level 3 license.
Joystick, Keypad & Jog dial
All new Axis joystick units are now supported. A number of new functions that can be linked to buttons on the different devices have been added, for example various video player functions such as play/pause and skip to the next/previous frame. With keypad, you can select a camera for the selected camera view, activate a preset for the selected PTZ camera and select a virtual camera for the selected camera in the client.
With the jog shuttle or the z-axis of a joystick, you can control the playback of recorded video in the video player forward/backward with a speed between 1/16 – 3x. With the jog dial, you can step one frame at a time forward/backward in the video player. These features work in both the video player and the mini video player.
Script Enhancements
There are now script objects for Alarms and Events that represent each of the alarms and events defined in the system, both system alarms/events and custom ones. There are also Collection items for Alarms and Events. In case of status changes, onStateChange is called on each object to allow for event-driven programming. With these new objects, completely new possibilities are introduced for writing efficient script code and thus optimizing the system.Various other improvements have been added, such as the split method for String objects and onInit on the Script object that is called at the start of the script execution but after all script libraries have been initialized.
In addition to this, we have improved Intellisense in the script editor so that it provides information for all properties on different objects of any of the basic data types Number, Boolean and String.
Clock Sync
In a video surveillance system, it is important that the clocks in all parts of the system are synchronized. With the new version of the Ethiris VMS, the system clock in each computer running the Ethiris Client is synchronized by default with the system clock in the computer running the Ethiris Server that acts as the system's security server. In this way, it is easy to ensure that all system clocks in all parts of the system are synchronized, which is a prerequisite for a well-functioning system.Automatic backup
Now there is the ability to automatically backup every time the server's configuration or any of the client configurations are updated. A backup file with the extension .eab (Ethiris Automatic Backup) is created. These files can be opened in Ethiris Admin where you can export individual configurations from the backup file.Automatic backup requires Premium or Universal Level 6 license level.
The Video Players
In both the video player and the mini video player, you can now play recorded video backwards. This makes it easier to find crucial events in recorded video because the operator can easily play video back and forth with a simple button press.EthirisViewer
New in EthirisViewer is that you can now digitally zoom in the recorded video regardless of the type of camera from which the image is recorded. Previously, you could zoom in video recorded with a 360 camera. This increases the usability of high-resolution cameras and provides detailed information in every part of the recorded video.Alarms & Events
The concept of associating cameras with alarms and events has been improved by showing only the already associated cameras in the list for each alarm and event. This makes it easier to manage systems with a large number of cameras.Other news in this area is that it is now possible to define a maximum recording time for the associated cameras and activate a preset for associated PTZ cameras when the alarm/event is activated. You can also define the order of the associated cameras and determine a primary camera.
Ethiris Cluster
To be able to control which member server in a cluster handles which camera, you can now prioritize primary and secondary member server for each camera. In this way, you can, for example, create a standby function where a member server is idle until one of the other members fails.
The support for connecting the Ethiris SDK to an Ethiris Cluster is now also complete.
Other
To further increase security, you can now choose to only allow TLS 1.3 when connecting a client to Ethiris Server. When choosing to encrypt video storage, index, cache, and header files are now also included, which reinforces the protection compared to before.Improved camera support through support for Multi-sliced H.265.
Updated search dialog for directories and files so that the search is done from Ethiris Server's perspective, i.e. only what Ethiris Server "sees" is shown in the dialog, regardless of which computer you run Ethiris Admin from.
