Ethiris VMS 14.2 – Full control of your facility!

The new version of Ethiris VMS contains, among other things, an updated version of the Ethiris SDK for deep integration with other systems. Feel free to download our brochure describing this and all other news in Ethiris VMS 14.2. Below is a brief overview of what's new.

In this version, we have continued to work with Ethiris SDK and can now present completely new objects for handling video, which will facilitate the implementation of video functions in other systems.

We have developed a complete solution for monitoring Ethiris NVRN Rack, which we call Ethiris Monitoring Dashboard (EMD). Via EMD, you can monitor all equipment in an Ethiris Rack both locally at the rack and remotely via a web browser.

Read on to find out more about these and several other news in Ethiris VMS 14.2.

Updated SDK
With the new objects CameraView and ViewerControl, it is easier than ever to create advanced video functionality in a system that integrates with Ethiris VMS. Via the CameraView object, you get access to live and recorded video, audio and PTZ control, all of which are built into the object for easy handling. With the ViewerControl object, you can synchronize several CameraView objects to, for example, start live viewing simultaneously on several cameras.

There is now support for Ethiris Access Service (EAS) in the Ethiris SDK, which means that you can connect to an Ethiris system via an EAS name instead of having to enter an IP address that potentially changes over time.

New statistical variables
In Ethiris VMS 14.2, we have expanded the data store with a large number of variables for information about, for example, network traffic, storage and UPS data. This information can be used internally in Ethiris, for example to generate alarms at certain given criteria, or the information can be transferred to external systems. One such example is Ethiris Monitoring Dashboard.

Ethiris Monitoring Dashboard
Ethiris Monitoring Dashboard (EMD) is a brand new WideQuick application used to monitor the equipment in an Ethiris Rack with a number of Ethiris NVRN, switch, NAS and UPS. EMD can be run directly in an Ethiris NVP (Network Video Panel) locally in the rack, or in a box computer in the rack. Since EMD is available as a web application, you can also monitor your rack remotely via a web browser.

Automatic time adjustment
In a video surveillance system, it is extremely important that all clocks in the different parts of the system are in sync. Otherwise, it will be very confused when, in retrospect, you have to try to sort out when various events occurred.
To avoid problems with clocks showing different time in an Ethiris system, Ethiris Server automatically sets the time in cameras connected via ONVIF, which is the normal way to connect cameras. In connection with this, Ethiris Server also ensures that the cameras point to Ethiris Server's NTP Server. In this way, the cameras' clocks will be kept in sync with Ethiris Server in the future.

To also ensure that the clocks match reality, you should in turn sync Ethiris Server's clock with an external NTP Server.

Time diff alarm
Of course, it is also important that the various Ethiris units, servers and clients, in a system have synchronised clocks. We have now introduced an alarm that is activated if the time between two devices in the system differs by more than 30 seconds. The alarm is displayed in all connected clients, including mobile clients. In this way, you find out about the problem and can quickly fix it.

Enhanced security
In Ethiris VMS, all communication between different Ethiris devices takes place encrypted to ensure the integrity of communicated data. If any Ethiris component in the system is older than 14.2, a negotiation between client and server automatically takes place where the toughest possible cipher supported by both sides is selected for encryption.

Test email from Admin
Now we have introduced a button to send a test message via e-mail directly under the settings for e-mail in Ethiris Admin. In this way, you can directly test that all information is filled in correctly without having to create a script in Ethiris to send a test message.

Script improvements
Ethiris Cluster is an enormously powerful function that, with minimal effort, creates a stable redundant system with a number of Ethiris Servers. In 14.2, we have added a collection item to Ethiris script to be able to iterate over the cluster members in a cluster and thereby gain access to all variables in each member such as name and current status.

We have also improved the SNMP script library, which can now also retrieve up-to-date information from switches from HP.
