Ethiris solves intercom for the hearing impaired

Nyängen’s group home in Sweden needed a smart solution for its intercom that would enable door openings for the hearing impaired in a safe and secure way. TKK Stockholm Security Installation AB is a partner of Kentima AB and knew that Kentima could provide the products needed to solve the challenge.

On the exterior wall of the property sits one of Kentima’s panels, an NVP311, with a camera above that communicates with Kentima’s Ethiris VMS software.

Inside the building there are two more panels, also of the NVP311 model. When a visitor rings the intercom, a picture of the visitor appears on both panels. Via the panels, residents or staff can use the dynamic answer button to open with one click on the screen.

Previously, they had to go down to the door to see who was ringing and be able to open for the visitor. The residents have a small box in their pocket that vibrates when someone calls the intercom. The solution can easily be expanded and the number of answering devices can be expanded to any number at any time.

For the project with Bromma Stadsförvaltning and Nyängen’s group home, Thomas at TKK Stockholm Security proposed products from Kentima as he knew that their software Ethiris VMS has a suitable solution for intercom and also has the double-image function picture-in-picture that could be tailored to suit the need perfectly. This means that both the caller and the answerer on the other end can see each other. It is a necessity for them to be able to communicate via sign language. But it is important to preserve the safety of the residents and therefore the picture of the resident is not visible until the person accepts that the picture should be displayed. That they would use panels from Kentima was a matter of course for Thomas.

A high frame rate of video was important and the requirement of 25 frames/second without delay was met by a good margin. Ethiris VMS provides the user with a powerful monitoring system that is easy to use. The solution can be used on all OE and NVP models from Kentima with a monitor size from 10.1” to 21.5”.
