Increased comfort in Vadstena with WideQuick HMI/SCADA

Vadstena Fastighets AB (VFAB) has via Kentima’s network of system integrators implemented the software WideQuick HMI/SCADA with the concept WideQuick BMS (Building Management System), from Kentima, for control and monitoring of the municipality’s properties.

Vadstena is located on the eastern shore of Lake Vättern, halfway between Stockholm and Gothenburg. The municipal property company, Vadstena Fastighets AB (VFAB), together with Vadstena Municipality, wanted to replace its SCADA system in order to streamline the operation of the municipality’s properties and obtain a more cost-effective system.

They were presented with a solution consisting of Kentima’s WideQuick HMI/SCADA software with a Premium licence and associated BMS concept. The solution is now being used successfully by both VFAB and the municipality, where the system is being replaced gradually.

VFAB and the municipality previously had different systems, but with one system, work is both more efficient and flexible in the properties, which have a total area of approximately 140,000 square metres.

In VFAB’s initial project,Kentima’s operator panels (WideQuick HMI Panel with WideQuick BMS) were connected to the superior WideQuick BMS SCADA. Several properties are continuously being integrated into the superior system. Local operator panels with WideQuick BMS are used to control lighting, ventilation, heat pumps, substations and other facilities. These are connected to a centrally located WideQuick BMS SCADA, which makes it possible to monitor all properties via the web.

"The flexibility provided by the system suits us very well. With a good standard for the information in the images, it is very scalable and easy to use", says Sven-Olof Ambjörnsson, Project Manager/Operations Technician, Vadstena Fastighets AB.

After VFAB saw good results with WideQuick BMS, work began on integrating the municipality’s facilities into the system.

The property climate in VFAB’s and the municipality’s properties has improved significantly with relatively small investments, where WideQuick BMS and control systems in combination with good windows and insulated attics have proven to be a winning concept. The use of superior systems in combination with regular checks of the subordinate systems has worked very well as an alternative to other larger ventilation projects where the cost is borne by the tenant.

A major advantage of WideQuick HMI/SCADA with associated BMS concept is that it is an open system that can be integrated with a large number of PLCs from different manufacturers.

VFAB has a good insight into how WideQuick HMI/SCADA works and can make changes to the configuration themselves, a task that has been streamlined with the help of training from Kentima. The municipal operating staff will also attend these training courses.

"With WideQuick HMI/SCADA, we have increased comfort for our tenants while reducing our costs and becoming more time-efficient. It’s absolutely fantastic!, continues Sven-Olof Ambjörnsson.

We will gradually expand the project and immerse ourselves even more in WideQuick HMI/SCADA and WideQuick BMS. Among other things, we will use the reporting function and customise reports for our operations, for example, regarding water meters. Given the fast and competent support provided by Kentima, this will certainly be implemented quickly and easily, concludes Sven-Olof.
