Ethiris VMS 14.0 – Focusing on large systems
The new version of Ethiris VMS contains lots of useful news. A brand new SDK (Software Development Kit) for deep integration with other systems, script libraries for simplifying advanced scripts, and a fantastic optimization of performance for really large systems with thousands of cameras, are some of them. Feel free to download our brochure describing these and all other news in Ethiris VMS 14.0. Below is a brief overview of what's new.
In this version of Ethiris VMS, we are launching the very first version of the Ethiris SDK. The aim is to enable a tight integration with Ethiris VMS from other systems that need a comprehensive functionality for video surveillance in their own application.Script library is also completely new to Ethiris VMS and will mean great opportunities for expanded functionality as well as better structure of scripts. Kentima provides seven (7) ready-made script libraries in conjunction with the launch and will continue to publish new script libraries on Kentima's website as they become available.
Read on to find out more about these and several other news in Ethiris 14.0.
Ethiris SDK
The purpose of the Ethiris SDK is to enable a tight integration with Ethiris VMS from other applications. The SDK itself comes in the form of a C++ dll and a .Net dll where you can choose which environment you want to work in. The two dlls are equivalent. There is also a sample application written in C# .Net for Visual Studio that one can use to see how to call different methods in the .Net dll. An Ethiris Server to be used via the Ethiris SDK needs a Premium or Universal level 6 license level as well as an option for the Ethiris SDK.Script library
Script library is really exciting news that will give users the opportunity to easily expand the functionality of Ethiris VMS. On the one hand, Kentima provides ready-made script libraries that are free to use, and on the other hand, you can create your own script libraries to easily distribute and reuse scripts within your own organization. An example script library from Kentima is the scSunRiseSet which calculates the time of sun rise/set based on the current date and position. This can be used instead of a schedule if you want to connect functions to whether it is bright outside or not.Script libraries require license level Advanced or Universal level 4.
Other script news
All our customers who use the scripting feature of Ethiris VMS will appreciate that Intellisense has now been both expanded and improved. Intellisense means that the user receives relevant information directly in the script editor about, for example, what methods are available for a particular object. Now local objects and, of course, public methods are also covered in script libraries so that the use of these is greatly simplified. We've also introduced bookmarks, which means that you can bookmark interesting lines in the script and then jump back and forth between all the bookmarks to quickly navigate between different places in the script.
Document map is a feature that is useful in large scripts that involves displaying a miniature of the script code with the current section highlighted in a transparent bright red color. This makes it easy to orient yourself in the script and be able to quickly scroll to different parts of the script.
Extended camera support
A wide camera support is important for Ethiris VMS. To maintain this broad support for the tidal wave of new camera models that is washing over the market, we have chosen to focus on ONVIF. It gives us access to the vast majority of cameras on the market. In conjunction with version 14.0, we have expanded our support for ONVIF and are now also certified (conformant) for profile M, which deals with Metadata for video analytics. This means that we are certified for both profile S and profile M.In our support for ONVIF, we have also added Auxilliary commands, which can be used for peripheral functions such as turning on/off an IR lamp in a camera or starting/stopping wipers for a camera.
New in version 14.0 of Ethiris VMS is also that we now support the management of ONVIF users in such a way that you can create, edit and delete ONVIF users in a camera directly via Ethiris Admin.
Optimized performance
As Ethiris VMS is used in ever larger systems, increasing demands are placed on performance. In the new version we have focused on being able to handle really large systems. It's about being able to load and run a large configuration in both Ethiris Admin and in Ethiris Client. We have succeeded very well and in our tests have run a configuration consisting of 150 Ethiris Server with 30 cameras each, i.e. 4,500 cameras in total. To make it easier for the operator in different configuration situations in Ethiris Admin where you have to choose a camera, for example to build a client view, we have introduced filtering options so you can choose which Ethiris Server you currently want to choose cameras from. In this way, in this case, we reduce the list of cameras from 4,500 to 30, and the task of finding the desired camera will be much easier.
Improved communication
When something relevant happens in your facility, it is of course important to find out. There are lots of different ways to communicate information from an Ethiris system. The new Ethiris SDK is one way. TCP/http communication, OPC, or databases are a few others. But often mail or SMS are sufficient, and it is easy to set up. With an SMS, it rings in the mobile phone of the affected staff regardless of where they are and that person can immediately take relevant actions based on the information in the message. Now we have added support for Tosibox 4G modems to send SMS from Ethiris VMS when something relevant happens in the facility.
