Ethiris VMS 11.0 – With performance in focus

We have put our main focus on performance and to increase the operator’s efficiency even further in this version. Now it is easier than ever to handle large systems with a large number of cameras in Ethiris Admin.

As we have launched our rack solutions in the fall 2019 we have also focused on getting the best possible performance out of Ethiris Server, especially when it comes to storing video in really large systems. Our largest rack solution is dimensioned for 1 000 cameras. With Ethiris Cluster for redundancy together with the new support for UPS, uninterrupted power, we can deliver extremely robust and reliable systems.

Video analysis more and more lives up to the market’s high expectations and in the new version of Ethiris we introduce support for ONVIF metadata to be able to receive even more types of analysis information from cameras.

Efficient camera configuration

To increase the efficiency of the operator when configuring Ethiris we have added new possibilities for sorting and filtering of the camera list and the recording panel in Ethiris Admin. Furthermore we have introduced the possibility to update values for several cameras at once. Hence you can for example change User name and Password for all cameras from a certain manufacturer at once.

Optimized video storage

High performance storage of video is always important in a video surveillance system. In the new version of Ethiris we have focused on optimizing performance to a NAS to be able to handle a large number of cameras storing high quality video. We have also brought internal priority rules into the product which makes sure that Ethiris first of all stores video on disk and secondly provides recorded video to clients.

Optimized Ethiris Admin

In large systems, performance in the configuration tool is ever more important. Our ambition with Ethiris Admin is to be able to handle thousands of cameras. Version 11 of Ethiris VMS contains several optimizations of Ethiris Admin to be able to do that. One such optimization is that all Ethiris Servers are loaded in parallel into the tree view in Ethiris Admin. Moreover, only the visible parts of the configuration are loaded at first. Everything under each camera is loaded once you click the camera. Consequently, large systems are loaded considerably faster in version 11.

Support for UPS

In mission-critical systems, it is a major advantage to be able to connect a UPS for providing the system with uninterrupted power. Now Ethiris has support for connecting a UPS, either directly or via a NAS. Besides from the UPS providing power to the Ethiris system during a certain time in case of power outage, Ethiris can read current state from the UPS. If the battery is low, Ethiris can shut down in a controlled manner to avoid problems such as corrupt video.

Enhanced camera support

In each new version of Ethiris we improve the camera support. In this version we have among other things enhanced the support for ONVIF which means that the image can be rotated and Ethiris can request metadata from ONVIF cameras. Via metadata Ethiris can react on object classification such as human or car. The support for H.265 via ONVIF has also been improved. Ethiris now has support for I/O in Axis cameras with firmware 9.x and Axis I/O module A9188. Finally, we also have enhanced the handling of high resolution cameras using MJPEG (> 20 Mpixel).
