Truly Cutting Edge News

Kentima Ethiris VMS

Increasing numbers discover the advantages of using our reliable and flexible software for camera surveillance, developed by Kentima in Sweden. The interest is greater than ever before and we are both excited and proud to be able to present a new version of our Ethiris VMS. In version 8.2 of Ethiris VMS we consolidate our position as market leader and several of the latest new features are truly cutting edge.

Ethiris VMS 8.2 – Cutting Edge with H.265
In version 8.2 of Ethiris VMS we continue to build on the solid foundation we have created in previous versions. Quite a lot of exciting and useful news is included. In the new version we have added support for H.265 for some cameras that support this. To make the system integrator’s work even more efficient, we have made further optimizations for configuration updates in Ethiris Server. Ethiris Mobile is already one of the best apps in the industry and in version 8.2 we increase the flexibility even more by letting the user create mobile client configurations in Ethiris Admin in advance. Ethiris Viewer has also been enhanced, now you can playback up to 9 simultaneous export files and furthermore, the viewer doesn’t need to be installed if the host computer has .Net 4.0 or later installed.

H.265
The camera development in general is advancing quickly and the new video compression format H.265 is beginning to get the market’s attention. So far, only a few cameras have support for H.265, but we expect it to soon be a standard feature in most of the new camera models. Hence we have implemented support for H.265 in Ethiris VMS. Primarily, we have H.265 support for some of Samsung’s models; QNO-7010R, QNO-7020R & QNO-7030R. Furthermore, Ethiris has H.265 support via Ethiris’ generic camera driver, which means that all cameras with RTSP support may use H.265 together with Ethiris VMS.

Optimized Configuration Update
Along with the possibility to use more memory for prealarm buffers, we have doubled the maximum number of connected cameras to each Ethiris Server, from 100 to 200, for license level Premium. The maximum numbers of connected cameras for the lower license levels are unchanged, i.e. 20 for Basic, 40 for Extended and 60 for Advanced.

Client configurations in Ethiris Server
In Ethiris VMS there is a feature we call ’online update’ of the server configuration. It means that Ethiris Server continues to run those parts of the configuration that are not affected by the changes in the new configuration sent from Ethiris Admin. Previously, this feature has comprised changes in script, which means that if changes are made to Ethiris script and saved, Ethiris Server continues to run all cameras without disruption in live and recorded video.

Now, we expand this feature to also comprise changes to cameras in the configuration. Only those cameras that have been changed in the configuration will be temporarily stopped when updating the server configuration. All other cameras will continue to run without disruption.

Native Ethiris users and groups
The authorization system is an important part of a VMS that often handles sensitive information that should not come into the wrong hands. Ethiris has for a long time been using Windows’ authorization system to protect information in Ethiris.

Now, we have added Ethiris native users and user groups to, above all in an Ethiris Cluster, make things easier. In Ethiris Cluster, the native Ethiris users and user groups are automatically synchronized within the cluster.

Each Ethiris user can be added to one or several groups. Just as before, a group can be associated with various user operations to control who has access to what in Ethiris. Now you can select both Windows’ user groups and Ethiris’ native user groups to connect with user operations.

Mobile Configuration in Admin
If you run version 5.82 or later of Ethiris Mobile connected to an Ethiris Server with version 8.2 or later you can (have to) create desired client configurations for the mobile in Ethiris Admin. This means that you can design all desired client views for Ethiris Mobile yourself.

You still have access to the 11 different view layouts that were available in the previous version of Ethiris Mobile, containing between 1 to 3 x 6 camera views. The difference now is that you can create as many views as you want containing desired predefined cameras in each view.

Another new feature is the possibility to create so called I/O buttons in the mobile configuration, which means that you can activate various functions in Ethiris from your mobile, such as opening a gate, activate a PTZ preset or turn on the light in a building.

Easy External Access via Ethiris Client
Sometimes you want access to your Ethiris system outside of the local network. In version 8.2 we have made this easier by introducing a possibility to enter external address and external port for the connection to each Ethiris Server in a client configuration. The idea is that you should enter the public IP address to the site where Ethiris Server is running. The port should be the external port that is mapped in the router for sending incoming messages to the local computer where Ethiris Server runs.

The Client first tries to connect using the local address and port, but if that fails the client tries to connect using the external address and port instead. The next time, the Client has learned and will automatically first try to connect using the last address and port that lastly succeeded. In that way you can use the same client configuration both externally and locally.

Access Control for Client Configurations
The authorization system for client configurations has been improved by introducing a new privilege; Show client configurations. Thus you can require log in for both using/loading a certain client configuration and for listing existing client configurations from a server. The reason for this feature is to be able to allow a client to load a certain client configuration without letting an operator change to another client configuration without logging in as an authorized operator.

Multiple Camera Views in Ethiris Viewer
Version 8.2 contains two major new features in Ethiris Viewer, which is used for playback of exported video from Ethiris VMS.

One is about synchronized playback of up to 9 exported video files simultaneously. The cameras are displayed in a split view, just as they are in Ethiris Client’s Player.

The other news is that Ethiris Viewer is now a stand-alone application. It means that it doesn’t need to be installed on the computer where it will run. The only requirement is that the host computer has .Net 4.0 or later installed. In Windows 10, this .Net version is installed on delivery and in other operating systems,.Net has usually been installed together with other installed software.
