Ethiris VMS
- Probably the best solution in the world!
Carlsberg Sverige AB, a subsidiary of Carlsberg A/S, has chosen Kentima’s software Ethiris VMS with ANPR solution to meet its need for a complete solution for video surveillance with automatic number plate recognition of vehicles.
In 2001, Carlsberg Sverige AB was formed as a spin-off from the Danish brewery and royal purveyor Carlsberg A/S, when the two leading breweries in Sweden, Pripps and Falcon, merged. The product portfolio currently consists of a number of well-known brands such as Falcon, Apotekarnes and Ramlösa.Carlsberg started a project to find a solution that could meet the need for efficient and reliable automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) of vehicles and streamline the gatekeeper’s manual and time-consuming tasks.
Carlsberg’s operations run around the clock with a guard organisation that jointly manages the Ethiris system. Together with Carlsberg’s security manager, their common goal is to prevent any damage or sabotage and create a safer environment for staff, contractors and visitors on the premises.
It was important to find versatile, flexible software that could also be integrated with other systems and to use intelligent video analysis from cameras of different brands. Furthermore, it was important to find a sustainable and reliable complete solution.
With the help of Kentima’s product department, a fully customised ANPR solution was created for three of Carlsberg’s facilities. Two in Falkenberg and one in Ramlösa, Helsingborg. The solution met all customer requirements and is now ahighly appreciated solution for the gatekeeper at Carlsberg.
"The scalability and configuration options in Ethiris VMS, where we have been able to freely program various functions, are truly invaluable and have given us significant added value!", says Christer Dahlström, Project Leader, Carlsberg Sverige AB.
In the past, registration was handled in Excel, where information such as registration number, haulage company, driver’s name, load and any dangerous goods were entered manually. With Kentima’s solution, the gatekeeper can now quickly search for stored registration numbers and then play back recorded video sequences to review information and the time of both entry and exit events.
The ANPR solution also includes a logbook where the gatekeeper can enter extra information such as vehicle type, purpose of visit and whether the vehicle is carrying chemicals or other dangerous goods. A complete list of vehicles can then be generated showing a summary of vehicles have chemicals on board and are currently in the area. If a vehicle has visited previously, its details are pre-registered, which saves time for the gatekeeper when handling and admitting vehicles.
ANPR technology is extremely flexible and can be scaled up to seamlessly handle multiple objects and facilities.
With a central Ethiris client, events and video can be retrieved, categorised and filtered depending on which object you want to search for recorded events from.
Because Ethiris VMS is easy to manage, it is easy to make the adjustments needed to adapt the solution to other facilities. For example, it is very easy to expand a facility with more camera licences and new functionality.
"Larger and more complex projects like this require effective support, and proximity to the support and development team plays a very important role here! We get all of this at Kentima.", continues Christer Dahlström.
Ethiris ANPR solution is a collaboration between Kentima’s two softwares, Ethiris VMS and WideQuick PSIM. This provides enormous benefits and means that additional functionality and graphic design/layout can be freely adapted to the customer’s requirements. Carlsberg has received a solution tailored to their requirements that can be easily applied to similar facilities.
