Ethiris VMS 12.0 – Audio and communication in focus

The new version of Ethiris VMS contains a large number of attractive and useful news. Several of the new features are about audio and communication, but there is also several exciting news in the user interface. Please download our brochure that describes all news in Ethiris VMS 12.0. Below follows a short overview of all that’s new.

In this version we have improved the communication possibilities in Ethiris at several levels. It applies to both handling of audio and the integration with other systems via .Net based SDKs. We have also put in an effort for improving the user interface with for example a completely new mini Player and alarm operator functions.

Read on to learn more about these and several other news in Ethiris 12.0.

Audio-in
For a while now, Ethiris has have support for audio-out, which means that an operator can speak out from an Ethiris Client to one or several speakers in a system. Now, we extend the audio functionality with handling of audio-in, i.e. Ethiris can use cameras with microphones as audio sources for listening live in Ethiris Client and also to record video with audio which later can be played back in the Player. Recorded video with audio can also be exported and played back with Ethiris Viewer.

The possibility to listen to audio from cameras can be controlled by both privileges in Ethiris’ authorization system and via script.

Enhanced timelines
To facilitate the understanding of how various recordings have occurred, we have introduced more different colors to the timelines for recorded video. Now you can easily differentiate between for example a manual recording, a recording via ordinary settings in the recording panel or via associated alarm or events. To further increase the clarity, an explaining text is displayed as a tooltip on hoovering the mouse over a video clip.
Mini Player
Now you can toggle between live and recorded video directly in a camera view in Live. Hence you can go back in time to watch recorded video without having to go via the ordinary Player. This function is both efficient and saves time for the operator.
Alarm operator functions
In an alarm situation it is important that the operator quickly has access to relevant information. In this version we have introduced a new type of acknowledgement of alarms that is dedicated to alarm operators. To be able to handle this type of alarm you have to be logged on to the system with alarm operator privileges. Upon handling the alarm, a split view is automatically displayed to the operator, containing the associated camera in both live and in a mini Player. This enables the operator to see what happened at the time of the alarm and at the same time keep an eye on what is happening in front of the camera now.
Intercom functions
Via a new type of interaction object in the client, Phone button, you can easily create Intercom functions in Ethiris. It only requires a camera with a microphone and a speaker that Ethiris has support for and some kind of button that the visitor can push and Ethiris can detect, for example via a digital input. All this is normally present in an Intercom unit, but it can also be a separate camera, not mounted in an Intercom unit, which increases the usability in Ethiris.
Enhanced button objects
The text in interaction buttons can now be controlled by a variable. A possible image can be scaled for fitting into the button. If the operator lacks permission to write I/O, buttons connected to I/O are dimmed to clearly state that they are not accessible.
New possibilities in script
A new property for each camera object facilitates the handling of cameras being viewed in any client. The property is called “ViewedLive” and is set to true no matter where the camera is viewed, in the normal client, the mobile phone or via WideQuick or Admin doesn’t matter. An example of use would be to warn if someone is watching a certain camera.
Extended camera simulator
To facilitate our online training we have extended the camera simulator with simulated I/O. Each simulator camera has access to 4 digital inputs and 4 outputs which are common to all simulator cameras. These I/O can be used just like ordinary I/O, for example in script or in the Watch window.

The camera simulator can now also handle video clips containing audio so a client connecting to a simulator camera can listen to and record the audio that is recorded in the simulator video sequence.

Updated 360 function
The library from ImmerVision that Ethiris uses for dewarping of 360 video is updated to the latest version, which among other things provides dewarping of the latest 360 camera models from Hanwha.
.Net plug-in
A large percentage of the integration SDKs available on the market are based on .Net. With a completely new plug-in module for .Net, which we “borrowed” from our sister software WideQuick, we can in a fantastic way import .Net based SDK directly into Ethiris’ script engine. All objects, methods and events exposed by the SDK become available in Ethiris script. This opens up enormous integration possibilities with other security systems such as access control.

The built-in intellisense feature in Ethiris script makes it easy to use since all available methods are listed in the script editor.
