WideQuick BMS/HVAC - an energy efficient alternative
The project that Nordkonsult El & Automation i Luleå AB has delivered to the new Gällivare Ice and Events Arena comprises 4 equipment cabinets, all of which feature a WideQuick HMI Panel H516H from Kentima. The goal is that the arena shall be the most energy efficient and modern ice arena in Sweden.
Nordkonsult is a provider of a range of different services within the industrial and technology sector. These include: industry and building automation, machine building and planning, electrical installation for industrial and property applications, and much more. When Nordkonsult submitted its tender in respect of the ventilation, heating, and heat recovery systems for the new arena, Kentima’s HMI products featuring the WideQuick HVAC property concept were once again placed center stage.
The new Gällivare Ice and Events Arena has been principally designed to host ice rink-based activities such as ice hockey, curling, and figure skating, but is flexible enough to be used for several purposes. The goal is that the arena shall be one of the most energy efficient and modern ice arenas in Sweden. Normally, the new arena can accommodate 600 seated spectators. For concerts, exhibitions, and similar events, the capacity of the arena can be increased up to 1,800 attendees.
”Kentima’s well thought out HMI products help us to work quickly and effectively. Our customers have been very satisfied with the results so far,” says Ove Segerlund, Group Manager, Nordkonsult El & Automation i Luleå AB.
Obviously, using carbon dioxide as a coolant in Gällivare means a somewhat higher investment cost - but it delivers significantly lower operating costs. This replaces ammonia, which is used in the majority of other ice rinks in Sweden.
Compressors and ice machines have been selected based on stringent energy efficiency requirements. The stated goal is that the Gällivare’s new ice and events arena shall be the most energy efficient facility of its type in Sweden.
”Kentima’s panels are very reliable and we have got a user-friendly and dependable system that efficiently monitors the facility,” says Ove Lindblom, Project Manager at TOP bostäder AB.
Local authority owned property company TOP bostäder AB is responsible for all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the new arena. The installation includes 4 control cabinets. All cabinets have a WideQuick HMI Panel H516H that communicates with SAIA PLC via Modbus TCP. The PLCs control 2 Fläkt Woods ventilation units via Modbus TCP. The installation controls heating, ventilation, and heat recovery throughout the arena, including offices and the ice rink.
Out of the box, WideQuick HVAC features a wide range of ready-to-use pop-up windows. All pop-up windows are object-oriented work views, which means that their content is adapted dynamically according to the selected object, e.g. a sensor or a fan. WideQuick automatically adapts the pop-up window depending on the variables defined for the object and the access rights of the operator. For the system integrator, this means that development time is minimized, and for the operator it means that they can get access to relevant information at their access rights level with one simple click.
Simply put - it is an intuitive way of presenting the right information to the right user.
